Chapter 1 Review

This chapter was interesting to me and brought up many ideas that I knew were happening around me but did not realize they had advanced so much.  As a teacher, this chapter really showed me that I need to be constantly learning and growing in my knowledge of technology and the world outside of the United States.  Since we are now doing so much outsourcing to other countries, without teaching the kids in my class the way that will help them succeed in our society.
On page 11 this sentence really stuck out to me, "Their enormous hunger to get ahead drives them to 'outlearn the competition.' "  It is especially important for teachers to know and understand this because if we just always teach kids in our class the same way year after year, we are short changing them and not preparing them for a world that is constantly changing and growing all around us.
For the education world in the United States, it is something new that we are averaging the same or lower on tests across the board for students in school.  With that being the case, it is important that reform happen in our education curriculum and constant re-learning for teachers.
The web plays a vital role in helping teachers and students alike stay connected and up to date with all the technology changes. The web allows people in remote places to connect, learn, and keep up with people from all over the world.  With the growth of the web, people in other places are now able to get the same education as people in America.  As the web grows, we must keep learning and figuring out new tools and software to have the best knowledge possible.
